Whether you are a reader who is excited to spend their January in a cozy chair with a good book or you are ready to break out of your winter rut with some fun, JCL's Winter Reading Challenge was created with you in mind.

January 2026 at JCL is your spot for all things Dolly Parton! Whether you enjoy Appalachian melodies, vibe along with classic country vinyl, or just enjoy some rhinestone fun we are here with reading challenges, activities, and events to keep you in the fun spirit all January long!

GET STARTED:

Grab a reading log from your library or log into Beanstack, and start the year off reading.

Paper and digital logs will be available starting on 12/20, and tracking should begin on or after January 1!

Note: children and teens have a different reading challenge than adults, but there are reading challenge options available for all ages!

What's the challenge?

Adult participants can read --120 pages or 2 hours-- between Jan. 1-31, and we'll consider your challenge complete! To track your reading, grab a paper log from your local branch, or use Beanstack. Be sure to submit your completed log by Jan. 31. Keep reading and logging for extra chances toward the grand prize!

Youth (ages 0-18) participants can read --2 books or 1 hour-- between Jan. 1-31, and we'll consider your challenge complete! What's the grand prize?

Once the challenges are complete, youth participants and adult participants can stop by the library to pick up their participation prize. Youth participants can collect a "Reading 9 to 5" glitter sticker and adult participants can collect a handy post-it book!

1 branch prize winner will be drawn per branch for each age category. Branch winners for youth will receive a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card. Adult branch winners can choose from 2 prize options (both with a $50 value): a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card OR a Dolly-Bundle of branded merchandise.
